EASE has successfully piloted a series of AI & Digital Wellbeing workshops aimed at promoting safe, responsible, and mentally healthy use of artificial intelligence tools among young people in the Upper River Region.
The pilot engaged 60 youth aged 15–22 through interactive sessions combining AI literacy, digital safety education, and mental wellbeing awareness. Participants explored how AI tools can support learning and creativity, while also examining risks such as misinformation, overreliance on automated systems, online harassment, and digital stress.
The workshops introduced practical strategies including critical thinking when using AI-generated content, responsible data sharing, managing screen time, and recognising emotionally harmful online environments.
Pre- and post-session assessments showed improved understanding of AI risks, increased awareness of online safety practices, and greater confidence in managing digital engagement responsibly.
“This initiative recognises that AI literacy must go hand-in-hand with mental wellbeing,” said the Programme Lead. “Technology should empower young people — not overwhelm them.”
The pilot will inform the expansion of EASE’s AI & Digital Wellbeing Initiative under the Education & Capacity Building Programme.
