How To Apply for University of Guelph Arrell Scholarships in Canada 2026

To apply for the University of Guelph Arrell Scholarships in Canada, interested and qualified candidates should;

  • Click the green button below to go to the Arrel Food Institute website.
  • Submit a complete application for admission to a graduate program (including all required supporting documents) for Fall 2026 by the deadline (February 1st).
  • The graduate program application must be fully completed by the deadline to be eligible for consideration, including all required supporting documents. 
  • Submit a complete Arrell Scholarship Application by the deadline. 
  • You will receive a confirmation email for this step after your Prospective Advisor submits their response. 
  • By clicking the link in the confirmation email, you are confirming that you have completed your graduate program application and your Arrell Scholarship application.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the 2026 Arrell Scholarships, interested and qualified candidates must;

  • Be entering a Master’s program in the Fall semester
  • Have a minimum first-class (A-) admissions average
  • Have a research interest that aligns with the mission of the Arrell Food Institute, which is to produce more healthy and nutritious food, grow the economy, and reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of our agri-food system.
  • Meet the admission requirements of the University of Guelph.

Required Documents for Arrell University of Guelph Scholarship 2026

To apply, candidates must be ready to submit the following documents;

  • a statement of research interests and personal motivations (maximum 2 pages, references not included);
  • a current CV;
  • a letter of support from a prospective University of Guelph faculty advisor, which also confirms that the applicant will be accepted into a graduate program.

    • Applicants are advised to seek support from a prospective University of Guelph faculty advisor prior to beginning the application process. 
    • The online Arrell Scholarship application will automatically send an email to your prospective advisor requesting their response.
    • Please confirm with your prospective advisor that they have received the email and advise them of the response deadline (listed above).

Selection Criteria

The scholarships will be awarded following a selection process through which all application files will be screened and then reviewed by a scholarship selection committee based upon:

  • Outstanding academic achievement;
  • Relevance of proposed research and personal motivation to the vision of the Arrell Food Institute;
  • Demonstration of commitment to public engagement, as evidenced in the CV; and an
  • Interview with the scholarship selection committee for those applicants that are short-listed.

Financial Benefits

University of Guelph Arrell Scholarship Canada 2026

  • Master’s – $50,000 per year for up to 2 years (6 semesters)
  • Scholars receive $50,000 per year, take part in leadership development, and join a dynamic community of experts, researchers, and industry leaders.

The scholarship will be applied to the recipient’s student account in three equal installments per year for the duration of the award. In exceptional circumstances, a one semester extension may be awarded, subject to approval by the Arrell Food Institute.
