Details

Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) is the first university dedicated entirely to the advancement of science through AI.

The UAE’s visionary leaders established MBZUAI to educate top talent, foster a world-class innovation ecosystem, and serve as a strategic think tank for the public and private sectors.

The University draws inspiration from its namesake, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates.

MBZUAI plays a vital role in advancing the UAE Government’s strategic priorities, with artificial intelligence identified as a critical driver of future growth and prosperity. The University’s vision and mission align closely with national objectives and support Abu Dhabi’s position as a global hub for the international AI community.

MBZUAI attracts world-class researchers and faculty across computer vision, machine learning, natural language processing, and related fields. Its academic and research initiatives focus on developing transformative AI solutions that deliver real-world impact and shape how societies imagine and build the future.

Eligibility Criteria

Bachelor

General requirements

MBZUAI is seeking the next generation of AI leaders. To apply, students should demonstrate:

Mathematical fluency

Students should demonstrate this fluency through strong high school results in math and science courses, particularly at the most advanced levels offered by their high school. Alternatively (or additionally), this fluency can be documented through high scores on quantitative standardized test results such as SAT Math.

Effective communication skills

Strong communication skills can be showcased through high school excellence in subjects such as English, as well as involvement in debating or theater, both in class and through extracurricular activities. Students are also recommended to submit a brief video outlining their interest in MBZUAI’s program, their goals, and how they plan to apply their knowledge.

Leadership and/or entrepreneurial aptitude

Leadership skills and entrepreneurial spirit are critical to thrive in our program. Students can demonstrate this through leadership roles in school activities, volunteering initiatives, or involvement in businesses or enterprises.

Computer programming familiarity

Previous coding experience is not required to enter the program. If coding competency can be demonstrated through GitHub or other open-source engagement, it will give the student a competitive advantage for admission and potentially exempt you from elementary programming courses.

English proficiency

High school grades demonstrating strong communication skills may be sufficient to prove English proficiency. However, if their high school education was in a language other than English or if their English grades are not strong, they will need to show sufficient English fluency differently. The simplest way to do this is by submitting standardized test results, such as IELTS or TOEFL (with a minimum score of 6.5 for IELTS or a minimum overall 90 for TOEFL iBT).

Graduate programs

General requirements

Applicants to MBZUAI’s graduate programs must hold a degree in a STEM field such as computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, mathematics, physics, or other relevant science or engineering majors from an accredited University or college recognized by the UAE Ministry of Education (MoE), with a minimum CGPA of 3.0 or 3.5 (on a scale of 4.0) depending on the program. Senior-level students can apply initially with a copy of their transcript and upon admission must submit official complete degree certificate/transcript. A degree attestation (for degrees from the UAE) or a Certificate of Recognition (for degrees acquired outside the UAE) should also be furnished within their first semester at the University.
