Details
Sophia University assists privately financed international students in applying for scholarships funded by external private foundations and local government bodies across Japan.
These external scholarship opportunities generally fall into two categories:
1.Scholarships Requiring University Recommendation: For these programs, foundations allocate nomination quotas to Sophia University. The university conducts an internal screening based on academic record, financial need, and character to nominate qualified candidates to the organizations. Students must participate in the university's internal scholarship registration during the specified application cycle (typically held in Spring and Autumn).
2.Direct Application Scholarships: For open-recruitment scholarships, students submit their applications directly to the respective foundation or organization without institutional recommendation. Detailed application guidelines, forms, and announcements are regularly posted on the university's student portal (Loyola) and bulletin boards.
Students are encouraged to regularly monitor the university's scholarship notices and the Center for Student Affairs for updated lists of participating foundations and specific application deadlines.
Financial Benefits
•Monthly stipends generally ranging from 30,000 JPY to 180,000 JPY per month depending on the granting organization
•Lump-sum allowances or research grants offered by select foundations
•Direct partial or full tuition subsidies provided by certain sponsoring bodies
•Scholarship duration typically ranges from one year to the standard period required for graduation
